Primus Broadband Fair Usage Policy

What is Primus’ fair usage policy?

Primus’ Fair Usage Policy is designed to ensure our customers’ broadband services remain fast and reliable.

Who does the policy affect?

A tiny proportion of broadband customers continually transfer large volumes of data during the daytime. Typically this activity makes use of a lot of bandwidth which can lead to reductions in the speed that other customers are able to access the Internet during the daytime (peak hours). It is only a small number of customers that do this, but it can mean that over 25% of bandwidth is used up during these peak hours. Primus wants to maintain quality access for all its customers and believes that the use of this policy will enable that to continue.

How will I know if I am affected?

If you are a high bandwidth user then our Business Customer Service Team will contact you to explain the situation and provide you with an opportunity to reduce your usage accordingly.

What steps can I take to reduce my usage?

We would ask that you limit the amount of broadband usage during peak hours and try to carry out bandwidth intensive usage during off-peak hours (6pm – 6am). This will reduce your impact on other users’ experience of the service. Should the usage continue to prove an issue and affect other users, then we may take steps to scale down your usage, or in some circumstances suspend or disconnect it. Primus wants to maintain quality Internet access for all its customers and enforcement of this policy is our way of ensuring our customers receive a great service.
